He Always Turned Back To Sex: Barmaid Says Conservative MP Bombarded Her With Sex Texts
Former Minister resigns over creepy “Daddy” messages sent to 28-year-old barmaid and her friend

A minister has resigned from the government on Friday night after sending text messages of a sexual nature to two female constituents.

Andrew Griffiths, a minister for small business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, is alleged to have sent up to 2,000 sexually explicit text messages to the women, the Sunday Mirror reported.

Theresa May’s former chief of staff gave £700 (NZ$1369) to Imogen Treharne and her friend and bombarded a 28-year-old barmaid and her friend with lewd comments over social media during a three-week period, despite never having met either of them.

One text read: “Take off the bra and panties . . . you’ve got Daddy in a frenzy.” the married Conservative minister suggested renting a flat so they could meet for sex and also demanded explicit photos and videos, something “f****** filthy” and said he’d rather be “licking naughty girls” instead of “running the country”.

Treharne told the newspaper that, after meeting him online, the MP described himself as “evil” and “didn’t want to speak to me about anything other than sex”.

She said: “I wanted him to be a nice guy, but by the end, I felt dirty,” adding, “I felt like I was being used for this wealthy man’s gratification.”

Treharne said she eventually began to feel like she was being “watched” by Griffiths, who monitored her posts on apps such as Instagram and Snapchat.

It was also claimed that the MP messaged Treharne saying: “I’m thinking maybe we need a flat for Daddy’s girls. I’m taken by you both. You girls are spectacular.”

In a statement to the Sunday Mirror, Griffiths, 47-year-old said he was “deeply ashamed”, assured the public he was seeking “professional help to ensure it never happens again” and apologised to Theresa May for his behaviour.

“I am deeply ashamed at my behaviour which has caused untold distress to my wife and family, to whom I owe everything, and a deep embarrassment to the Prime Minister and the Government I am so proud to serve,” the new father said.

“Following discussions today with the Chief Whip I have referred myself to the Conservative Party’s Code of Conduct procedures. I entirely accept that pending this investigation it is right the whip is withdrawn.”

“I do not seek to excuse my behaviour and will be seeking professional help to ensure it never happens again.” he added.
