Boris Johnson has been kicked out of home by his wife, Marina Wheeler, who accused him of cheating on her again, The Sun revealed.
After persistent reports of Johnson’s womanising, the ex-Foreign Secretary and his wife said in a joint statement on Friday that they separated “some time ago” and they are now in the process of divorcing.
The couple, both 54, have been married for 25 years and confirmed yesterday that they were parting after The Sun reported that they had separated after numerous allegations about Johnson having had other extra-marital affairs.
“Several months ago, after 25 years of marriage, we decided it was in our best interests to separate. We have subsequently agreed to divorce and that process is under way,” their statement read. “As friends, we will continue to support our four children in the years ahead. We will not be commenting further.”
The Former foreign secretary had been accused of cheating several times on barrister Marina who he married in 1993.
The Sun’s allegations came after a series of reports that Johnson is poised to take over from Theresa May as the next Prime Minister in No 10.
However, Johnson is just as unpopular as May by holding a favourability rating of 33 per cent in comparison to the PM’s 31 per cent in the latest poll.
According to the YouGov survey, 31 per cent of voters thinks May is a good PM, while only 29 per cent say Johnson would be.
one of Johnson’s confidants told the Daily Mail that the disclosure was not an attempt to sabotage his hopes of becoming the PM but a “damage limitation exercise”.
“I believe it is in Boris’s interests to get this news out there now so it is not used by his enemies in the height of a leadership contest.” the source said. “It has all the hallmarks of an attempt to clear the decks. His marital problems have never been a secret.”
“This means that if and when he goes for the top job, it will be old news and cannot harm him – which is what his pro EU enemies were bound to have done.” the ally added.
