European Commission President Says Britain Will Regret Leaving EU After Brexit
Nigel Farage urged Theresa May “to do what Trump has done and stand strong against the European Commission, against the unelected bullies”.

Britons will “have” to regret Brexit, European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker said in an address to the European Parliament.

Mr Juncker said in French: “On 29 March 2019 at midnight, the United Kingdom will have left the European Union.”

When met with applause by some British MEPs, he sniped in English: “Then we will have to come when you regret your decision.”

He warned things “cannot remain as they are” for the British in its relationship with the EU after leaving the bloc.

“If you decide to jettison, leave behind, the common agreements and rules, then you have to accept that things cannot remain as they are.” Mr Juncker said.

“As the clock counts down, with one year to go, it is now time to translate speeches into treaties, to turn commitments into agreements, and broad suggestions and wishes about the future into specific and workable solutions.” he added.

Guy Verhofstadt, The Euro-parliament’s Brexit coordinator said it was time for the UK to move beyond the “slogans and soundbites”.

Mr Verhofstadt told MEPs that they don’t have a proposal from the UK side on the future relationship with the union. He added that Theresa May’s Mansion House speech consisted only of “repeating the red lines that we already know”.

Nigel Farage said shortly after that the EU “is bullying us,” and urged the PM “to do what Trump has done and stand strong against the European Commission, against the unelected bullies”.

Mr Juncker also added that cherry-picking is not going to be possible in the future trade relationship between the UK and EU.

“I would rather have preferred Britain not to have decided to leave the European Union, but anyone who leaves the European Union has to know, frankly, what this means,” he said.
