Mogherini Urges Hariri To Return: “Saudi Arabia Should Avoid Regional Tension In Lebanon”

On Monday, EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini has warned Saudi Arabia against interventions in Lebanese policy, called for unity in the country.

During the meeting in Brussels, Mogherini said all political forces inside the country should focus on the domestic agenda and urged Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return to his country.

Hariri abruptly announced his resignation in a televised address from Saudi Arabia and has put Lebanon at the forefront of regional rivalry in recent days.

Federica Mogherini told reporters:

“We appeal first of all to the political forces to focus on Lebanon and what they can deliver to their citizens, Prime Minister Hariri to return to his country and the unity government to focus on domestic achievements,”.

Mogherini said the political parties should work together to avoid importing regional conflicts, regional dynamics and regional tensions into Lebanon.
