Palestinian President Lashes Out At Trump: “He Is Unfit To Lead Future Peace Talks In The Region”

During a special session of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation which was held in Istanbul Wednesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated that Palestinians will no longer accept any American role in the Middle East peace process at all.

“The United States has chosen to lose its qualifications as a mediator. We will no longer accept that it has a role in the political process,” the president said.

The meeting was held in order to coordinate and counter the Muslim world’s reaction to the President Trump decision on Jerusalem with the Muslim nations that came together to “reject and condemn” the US.

The nations called the US “unfit to lead future peace talks in the region”. Abbas said: “This is a reward to Israel,” he added: “Trump’s move encouraged Israel’s continuing occupation of the Palestinian territories.”

Abbas said the decision by Trump will not change the reality of the city of Jerusalem and will not give any legitimacy to the Israelis on this issue. “We will achieve national independence.”, he added.

Abbas warned the Palestinians would refuse any future US involvement in the peace process and threatened that there will be “no peace or stability” in the region until Jerusalem is recognised as the Palestinian capital.
