Poll: 80% Of Tory Members Want Theresa May Gone Before The Next Election

Theresa May has faced a fresh Tory revolt after a poll revealed that 80 per cent of her party members want her gone before the next election.

A survey of Tory supporters by Conservative website ConHome found 80 per cent think May should quit before the nation goes to the polls again in 2022.

According to the poll, more than a third, 35 per cent of the voters think the prime minister should quit immediately, while the remaining 45 per cent said she must step aside before the next election in 2022. only 19 per cent of respondents said the PM should not resign at all.

The poll will come as blow to the prime minister on the eve of the Tory conference in Birmingham.

Meanwhile, another poll by Reuters found that 60 per cent of business figures don’t have faith in the PM’ ability to deliver a Brexit deal by the November deadline.

Some 60 per cent said they did not expect the UK and the European Union to agree on a post-Brexit trading agreement by November.

May has come under rising pressure over her Brexit plan, which is deeply unpopular with many of her party members while she claims that her Brexit Chequers plan is the only credible proposal on the table.

The PM is expected to use the Birmingham conference to attempt to convince the Tories to back her Chequers plan, which she warned is the only alternative to a no-deal Brexit.
