Saudi Arabia’s State Media Threats Canada With A 9/11-Style Attack

On Monday, Saudi Arabia’s state media tweeted a graphic photo of an Airplane heading toward the Toronto skyline in a way that recalled the September 11 attack on the Twin Towers.

The tweet says that: “As the Arabic saying goes: ‘He who interferes with what doesn’t concern him finds what doesn’t please him.”

The tweet also contains the graphics warning Canada not to Stick its nose ‘where it doesn’t belong!’

The backlashes from Saudi Arabia came after Global Affairs last week tweet which said it was “gravely concerned” about a new wave of arrests in the kingdom targeting women’s rights activists and urged their immediate release.

After the tweet, Saudi Arabia has expelled Canada’s ambassador and frozen all new trade and investment with Ottawa in response to the criticism.

The account @Infographic_ksa was the source of the tweet. Just hours earlier the same account tweeted another graphic titled “Death to the dictator” featuring an image of the supreme leader of Iran, Saudi monarchy’s main ideological and regional enemy.

Among the 19 hijackers involved in the September 11 attacks, 15 of them were Saudi citizens. Osama bin Laden, the founder of the al-Qaeda terrorist group, came from a prominent Saudi family.

Mohammad bin Salman and his monarchy have long been internationally accused of funding terrorist groups around the world and spreading a violent ideology called Wahhabism.

Under the leadership of its new young ruler, Mohammad bin Salman, there are some improvements in the country’s human rights status, but a surge of arrests appearing to target prominent women’s rights activists who previously campaigned to abolish Saudi Arabia’s ban on driving for women has caused international alarm and prompted the tweet from Canada.

Saudi Arabia’s state media account has now deleted the tweet featuring the graphic with the plane and reuploaded a new one without the airplane heading toward the tower.
