Bashar al-Assad called Theresa May a “colonialist liar” who along with the UK’s allies, US and France, deliberately prolonged the Syrian Civil War and helped stage the alleged chemical attack in Douma that killed 42 people.
“The West supported the war from the very beginning, and it supported the terrorists who started exploding everywhere and killing everywhere and everyone and beheading. The West supported Al Qaeda. So, it’s not enough to say there is killing … The West is responsible first of all,” Assad said during an interview with Britain’s Mail published on Saturday.
While the White Helmets and rebels Jaish al-Islam claimed that the Syrian military dropped bombs containing an unknown chemical weapon from helicopters, Assad claims the UK had a role to play in the alleged attack in order to justify following airstrikes that targeted several weapons facilities in Syria.
The Syrian president noted that after the government forces liberated the area, their information confirmed the attack did not take place.
He said the UK should prove with evidence that the attack happened and then they should prove who is responsible.
“The UK publicly supported the White Helmets that are a branch of Al Qaeda,” Syria’s president added, “We consider the White Helmets to be a PR stunt by the UK. So yes, definitely, it was staged by these three countries together and the UK is involved.”
Assad also told the Daily Mail that he has the support of his own people and they are fighting the terrorists, while those terrorists are supported by the UK, French and American government and their puppets who prolong Syria’s civil war.
The Syrian president said the foreign policy being pursued by the UK and its allies is a “colonial” one which has been pursued since the beginning of the 20th century. He also said Theresa May is in any position to lecture other world leaders.
“Britain and the US attacked Iraq illegally in 2003. They killed millions, caused mass destruction, let alone the number of widows and amputees.” Assad said, adding that “the US, the UK and France presence in Syria is also illegal.”
