Trump: Queen Elizabeth Referred To Brexit As “A Very Complex Problem”

The US president has told a British TV interviewer about his private conversation with Queen Elizabeth II who, had described Brexit as a “complex problem.”

Donald Trump told Piers Morgan during an interview on Air Force One on Air Force One Friday that the 92-year-old monarch was an “incredible woman” and “so sharp, so beautiful inside and out”. Trump met Queen earlier on Friday at Windsor Castle during his first official visit to the UK.

During the conversation which published by the Mail on Sunday on Monday, when asked by Morgan whether they had discussed Brexit, Trump replied: “I did” adding, “Errrr she said, ‘It’s a very’ – and she’s right – ‘it’s a very complex problem’, I think nobody had any idea how complex that was going to be.”

“Everyone thought it was going to be ‘Oh it’s simple, we join or don’t join, or let’s see what happens.’” he added.

The monarch had not commented on political matters and has never indicated whether she favors having the UK leaving the EU. She also remained scrupulously silent during the Brexit referendum campaign in 2016.

Trump also told Morgan he doesn’t know if the queen liked him, but that he liked her. He said his mother was a great admirer of the queen. “My mother felt she was a great woman,” he said.

Trump’s UK visit included multiple gaffes including his “shocking” break of protocol by walking in front of the Queen.
